Food security: NDE trains Nasarawa youths on crops, livestock production

The National Directorate of Employment(NDE) has commenced the training of 50 young men and women on crop and livestock production in order to enable them become self reliant and boost food security in the country.

Alhaji Dauda Wase, the NDE Coordinator in Nasarawa State, made this known on Friday in Doma during the orientation programme for beneficiaries under the programme, tagged “Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS).

Wase said that the training was organised to sensitise the beneficiaries with modern skills in both crop and livestock production in the interest of development.

“The orientation programme is organised to educate the new beneficiaries of the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS).

“ This is one of the NDE’s modest contributions and channels for creating job opportunities for jobless Nigerians.

“The SADTS is a three months long training scheme on modern techniques of crop and livestock production.

“It is designed to improve agricultural yields for more profitable farm income and food sufficiency for the country.

“And at the same time providing employment and economic independence for enhanced quality of life for farm families and communities.

“The scheme is implemented in two phases: the first phase is a two weeks intensive theory classes, and the second is the establishment and maintenance of two model demonstration farms.

“One for crop production or market gardening and the second for livestock production or poultry farm in the remaining period of training,” he said.

Wase therefore urged the participants to give all the necessary cooperation, attention and seriousness the exercise deserves for the overall development of the country.

“It is only by so doing that the expected results will be a positive one. And this is the only way that can justify the huge government investment for you on the programme,” he added.

He also called on the State Government, Local Government Councils, wealthy individuals, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) in the state to support NDE’s programmes to provide more job opportunities for the unemployed Nigerian youths.

“I wish to sincerely thank the Executive Chairman of Doma LGC, Alhaji Rabo Sani, for accepting to host the training scheme in his domain and especially for providing us with all the necessary things we need for a the establishment of the expected demonstration farms,” the coordinator said.

The council chairman commended NDE for addressing unemployment challenges in the country.

Sani, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Simon Otukpa, assured of the council’s continued readiness to provide enabling environment for NDE’s programme to succeed in the area.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Mohammed Akwe, appreciated NDE for the gesture and promised to live up to expectations.
