Food poison: Caterer warns against home packaged foods

Food packaged by mothers or wives from homes have been described as the best practice in preventing food poison in Nigeria.

Mrs Beauty Roland, a Caterer, said this in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency in Abuja on Thursday.

Roland, who is also the Proprietress of an Events Management outfit, advised that it was safer to eat foods cooked at home than patronising food vendors or unclean restaurants.

“I advise wives or mothers to always package foods for their husbands and children from the home in order to prevent food poison,” Roland said.

The caterer who condemned unhygienic cooking, called on the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to rise up to the occasion.

She also advised NAFDAC to improve on the monitoring and control of food in Nigeria for people’s healthy eating.

According to her, some food vendors who dispense their foods under unclean environments expose the foods to flies and other pests that can cause diarrhoea and other ailments.

Roland urged caterers and food vendors to maintain self hygiene while cooking or dispensing foods to people for food safety.

She however advised Nigerians to eat healthy not only to prevent diseases but to avoid obesity which had become a global challenge.

NAN reports that Oct. 16 of every year is celebrated as world food day, which is set aside to commemorate healthy eating. (NAN)
