Foiled coup attempt in Sao Tome and Principe: PM-

A coup attempt was thwarted Thursday night in Sao Tome and Principe, a small island country in the Gulf of Guinea, Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada announced Friday.
During a press conference held hours earlier, Patrice Trovoada said the military had aborted a coup attempt Thursday night at the army headquarters in the capital Sao Tome, saying the situation is now under control.
Four men, including former president of the outgoing national assembly Delfim Neves and Arlecio Costa, a former officer convicted in 2009 for an alleged coup attempt, were detained, Trovoada said.
Trovoada said he hopes the truth is out and everyone involved in this attack is held accountable. ■
