Florida Panthers Headed Back to Stanley Cup Final
The Florida Panthers have booked themselves a place in the 2022-23 Stanley Cup Final after securing a victory against the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of the NHL’s Eastern Conference Finals on Wednesday night. A goal scored in the last five seconds by Matthew Tkachuk sealed the win and sent fans into a frenzy at FLA Live Arena, with rubber rats raining down onto the ice.
This will be the Panthers’ second-ever appearance in the Stanley Cup Final, having previously lost in Game 4 against the Colorado Avalanche in 1996. They made history on their way to the final this year by becoming only the third team in the league’s expansion era to make the Final as the lowest seeded team that season. Winning their first playoff sweep in franchise history added to their achievements.
Of the 36 players currently on the team’s roster, 21 of them were not even born the last time the Panthers made it to the Stanley Cup Final. This underlines the significance of their achievement and the excitement of the team’s younger generation.
In the upcoming final, Florida will host Games 3 and 4, with the possibility of hosting Game 6 as well. Fans have reason to be thrilled, as these will be the first Stanley Cup Final games hosted inside FLA Live Arena in Sunrise – the arena was only opened in October 1998.
The Florida Panthers will now wait to see who they will face in the final. Both the Dallas Stars and the Vegas Golden Knights, the two remaining teams in the Western Conference Finals, have proved challenging for the Panthers during the regular season. The Cats went a combined 1-3 against these teams during the 2022-23 season.
With the level of excitement and momentum built up by the Panthers, the team and their fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the Stanley Cup Final, ready to put up a good fight for the championship title.
