HELSINKI, Finland, December 3, 2021 / APO Group / –
The President of the Republic, Sauli Niinistö, approved an amendment to the Decree of the President of the Republic on foreign service. The amendment regarding the location of Finnish diplomatic missions and the provision of consular services in the Diplomatic Service will enter into force on December 10, 2021. With the amendment, Finnish embassies will be established in Dakar, Senegal, and Doha , Qatar, as of December 10, 2021.
Both embassies will start their operations on a small scale and in temporary offices. Consular services for Dakar and Doha will be provided at the Finnish Embassy in Abuja and the Finnish Embassy in Abu Dhabi, respectively, until the new mission facilities are ready to provide those services. However, as of December 10, both embassies will provide services for people in distress, as well as other urgent consular services that require immediate action on the spot.
The amendment to the Decree will also apply to the Finnish Embassy in Tehran, which in the future will have the authority to provide residence permit services to Afghans legally residing in Iran. Previously, these services were only provided by the Finnish Embassy in New Delhi.
