FCT taskforce raids brothel, arrests 27 commercial sex workers

Members of the Social Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, together with security agents, raided a popular brother in the territory, arresting no less than 27 sex workers.

Sani Amar, acting director of welfare services for the FCTA, who led the raid on Friday, said FCT Minister of State Dr Ramatu Aliyu had declared war on brothel operators and sex workers in the territory.

According to him, the FCT Minister of State had ordered the Secretariat for Social Development to cleanse the FCT of all human nuisances and social vices such as street workers and brothels.

Amar, who added that those arrested had been turned over to police for prosecution, reiterated FCTA’s commitment to ensuring the rule of law thrives in the city.

He said the Northern Nigeria Penal Code, Immigration Act and NAPTIP Act stipulate that brothels, street sex trade, child abuse, child labor and human trafficking humans are criminal activity.

“CTF Minister of State Dr. Ramatu Aliyu and CTF Permanent Secretary Mr. Olusade Adesola and Acting Secretary of the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) Dr. Kevin Ike are committed to protecting health and the lives of residents.

“The Minister has declared war on the FCT brothel operators and ordered us to ensure that the city is rid of these illegal activities and businesses.

“This is a clear demonstration of the Minister of State’s commitment to ensuring the rule of law powers the CTF,” said Mr. Amar.

The director therefore called on the public, especially those who were into the operation of brothels, the sex trade, to change their minds and businesses.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is real and a sex trade operator and his clients do not have the luxury of time to check or ensure their health.

“Therefore, this is an easy way of spreading COVID-19 and it is the duty of the CTF administration to protect the life and health of residents,” he said.
