Bello also urged them to imbue themselves with the ability to resist pressure from family and associates to compromise their integrity and flout public service rules, especially regarding hiring processes and accepting gifts.

He stressed the need for them to open gift registries to document all gifts offered, received, and full compliance with existing rules and regulations.

Likewise, the minister reminded them that they were responsible before the law for all their acts in the exercise of public functions.

FCTA Permanent Secretary

He commended the FCTA Permanent Secretary and other senior officials for the well-organized retreat and the participation of the experts.

Chief of Staff

Earlier, the Minister’s Chief of Staff, Malam Bashir Mai Bornu, encouraged political appointees to reaffirm their commitment to the FCTA and support the minister in discharging his responsibilities.

Permanent Secretary of the FCTA

In addition, the Permanent Secretary of the FCTA, Mr. Olusade Adesola, said that in the course of the retreat, the participants considered various aspects of the FCTA, including government rules and regulations.

FCTA Buhari

“They also took an in-depth look at the mandates for 13 targets that were passed on to FCTA Buhari,” he said.

Adesola explained that the recall revealed a close look at where the FCTA currently stands in fulfilling those mandates and how political appointees could be more effective in ensuring that the FCTA meets its goals in that regard.

He also said that the retreat met its objectives, as it allowed participants to further equip themselves for more efficient and effective service delivery.

According to him, all the presentations, discussions and resolutions will be available on a microsite from which relevant administration officials can easily reference if the need arises.

Executive Secretary

For his part, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Shehu Ahmed, said the retreat had greatly benefited his organization.

He stated that the experts’ presentations had further developed the capacity of government officials, leading to a better understanding of what to do in situations such as emergency procurement, variations in contract performance, among others.

Bashir Mohammed

In his contribution, Dr. Bashir Mohammed, Director of the Department of Human Resources Management at the FCTA, said that in the future, the administration hoped to see improved changes in the conduct and performance of officials.

Olusegun Olasope

The lead consultant for the retreat, Prof. Olusegun Olasope, praised the FCTA for its efforts to build the capacity of its officers.

Olasope expressed his optimism that in the coming months positive changes should be expected from officials in carrying out their responsibilities.

Chief Imam of the Abuja National Mosque

The retreat featured presentations by the Chief Imam of the Abuja National Mosque, Dr. Mohammed Kabir, and the President of the Christian Association FCT of Nigeria, Dr. Samson Jonah.

The two religious leaders asked the participants to always remember that they are ultimately accountable to God in the performance of their duties.
