Lagos, Nigeria – E be like say wahala don reduce for former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as Federal High Court for Lagos don discharge am of N6.9bn fraud charges on Wednesday. E be like movie, as Fayose dey shed tears for outside the court, jubilation dey everywhere as supporters dey celebrate am like say dem win World Cup (no be lie though, dem fit call am small win!).
Fayose no fit hold back joy as e kneel down dey thank God for the judgment wey he dey call ‘vindication’. You know say e dey emotional now, tears dey flow everywhere, and him dey hug him legal team like dem just win Grammy (if nah me, I go do dance too!).
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, wey dey run the case, don uphold the no-case submission wey Fayose and him company, Spotless Investment Limited, file. The judge talk say EFCC no fit establish ‘prima facie’ case against dem. E get as EFCC no fit put their case for ground like say dem dey go market.
EFCC don accuse Fayose say im launder N6.9bn during him tenure as governor between 2014 and 2018. Dem talk say him take N1.2bn to run him 2014 election campaign, plus $5m wey e receive as cash from ex Minister Musiliu Obanikoro. E get drama sef, as EFCC accuse am say him dey use proxies and companies like De Privateer Ltd for all this money matter, like say cash dey grow on tree.
Dem don start this case since 2018. Fayose lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), shake the ground during him last hearing for May 19, 2025, when e tell the court say ‘Omo, no evidence wey fit join Fayose to any crime’. Dem no even charge the alleged co-conspirator. You know say if dem no get second party for conspiracy, e no go sweet at all.
“If the money clean, wetin stop am from using him name for the properties?” Jacobs ask, as if e wan set trap. E dey talk say Fayose dey use friends buy properties everywhere, even outside Nigeria, but when dem call dem to come talk, dem just deny say dem know anything. E be like say dem dey play hide and seek.
But, while dem dey battle for court, Fayose dey dey claim say na him send Obanikoro for the funds, after all, na him request the money. Omo, the court no get choice but to rule say EFCC no fit put any noose for the neck of Fayose and him company. So, dem discharge and acquit both of dem. But wait, no be say EFCC go just fold hand so? Dem don announce say dem go appeal the judgment like say dem fit change im mind.
Dey don also confirm say dem dey go collect the true copy of the judgment to begin the appeal process. After all, people wey dey hold the gavel fit change dem mind small small, abi dem think say dem fit just run out sharp sharp?
