Farmers, SMEs benefit from World Bank project in Enugu
World Bank-assisted Agricultural Processing
Farmers, small and medium-sized enterprises and others have benefited from the World Bank-assisted Agricultural Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Enhancement Support (APPEALS) project in Enugu State.


Lieutenant Governor of Enugu State
The Lieutenant Governor of Enugu State, Ms. Cecilia Ezeilo, revealed this during a ninth two-day World Bank Implementation Support Mission held in Enugu.

Enugu State
He explained that the APPEAL project had a great impact on the agricultural sector in Enugu State.

Ezeilo said, “Many farmers in the state have also benefited through training, technology demonstration, construction of processing centers, and aggregation.
Support Project
The lieutenant governor said that the Support Project had impacted farmers by improving their productivity in the three priority value chains of rice, cashew and poultry.
He added that 15 farmhouse/aggregation processing centers are currently being built in various locations around the state.
World Bank APPEALS
“I want to assure the World Bank APPEALS task force leader, Manievel Sene, that we are doing everything possible to ensure the construction of 13.3 kilometers of access roads.
“We are working to speed up the deployment of power and more,” he said.
National Coordinator of the APPEALS Project
In his commentary, the National Coordinator of the APPEALS Project, Alhaji Mohammed Jobdi, said that the plenary was intended to interact and review what the APPEALS Project had done.
He explained that the meeting would provide them with an opportunity to interact with experts on what the state had accomplished and address issues the project in the state is facing in achieving its goal.

Also speaking, Sene reiterated the World Bank’s interest in supporting the project in the state.

“I am proud of the APPEALS in Enugu State and we will continue to make sure the project succeeds in the state,” he said.
Acting State Coordinator
Earlier, the Acting State Coordinator, Enugu APPEALS, Ms. Ihuoma Eze, said that the current status of project implementation across all components would be reviewed and open for advice from the team.
This, he said, would help achieve the development objectives of the project to improve agricultural productivity, including for small and medium-scale farmers to increase value.
“The implementation will also improve the agricultural value chains of poultry, rice and cashew,” he said.
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi
The coordinator explained that the APPEALS project activities were in line with the agenda of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
