FAAN arrests 90 touts at Lagos, Abuja airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has arrested more than 90 people at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The FAAN, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Henrietta Yakubu, said the suspects were arrested for carrying out nefarious activities, including facilitating the issuance of false COVID-19 test results and the issuance of an illegal yellow card. to travelers.

Other crimes are: defrauding travelers under the pretext of helping them in their boarding process, acting as an interface between passengers and airlines, unauthorized entry, trespassing, illegal facilitation, forgery, loitering, theft, public nuisance and overcrowding of the boarding lounges, among others. .

Ms. Yakubu added that some of those arrested were personnel from Patovilki Nigeria Limited, Lakewood Services, Nigeria Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) and other airport personnel.

“Of the total detainees, 59 were handed over to the airport police command in Abuja for prosecution, while 30 were handed over to the Lagos police force for the same.

“The FAAN will take this opportunity to warn those who do not have any legitimate business at the airports, as well as airport personnel performing illegal duties, to desist from such acts, as the authority will not hesitate to arrest and hand over such persons. . for prosecution, “the statement said.

FAAN management had previously identified those who crowd airports to engage in illegal activities.

These include former airline workers, retired aviation agency workers, their relatives, and others who may be familiar with the airport environment.

The agency alleged that they colluded with some airport workers to carry out their illegal activities and promised that these resellers should be removed from airports because their activities could generate internal threats, which could constitute a critical security breach at airports.
