Excessive use of antibiotic causes odour at private part – Gyneacologist

A gynecologist, Dr Prosper Igboeli, has advised women to avoid overuse of antibiotics for their own health.

Igboeli gave the advice in an interview with Nigeria‘s news agency, NAN, in Abuja

Igboeli, general manager of Mand M Hospital, Fertility and IVF Center, said such practices contribute to the main causes of aggressive vaginal odor.

The medical expert said that women, who have stopped using oral contraceptives, also experience increased vaginal discharge.

According to him, an increase in vaginal discharge was recorded in women who stopped using the oral contraceptive.

“They underwent a course of antibiotics and contracted venereal disease as a result of unsafe and unprotected sex,” he said.

Igboeli explained that some women had excessive yeast growth after completing an antibiotic treatment called a yeast infection.

He found that “such actions occur because the antibiotic kills the lactobacillus which stabilizes the environment of the vagina.

“Part of this thing is actually the abuse, normal vaginal discharge is usually white while yellow or green discharge signifies an infectious process.

“This is usually associated with a foul or unpleasant odor. “

He said it was natural behavior to have a small amount of vaginal discharge in any mature woman.

“The vaginal wall itself secretes discharge, which contains glycogen (sugars) which are broken down into lactic acid.

“Poor vaginal hygiene can also lead to vaginal odor,” Igboeli said.

He said the most notorious viruses are yeast infections (moniliasis) and trichomonas vaginalis, a flagyllate and advised women for high personal hygiene.

The doctor said other infections such as progenital herpes can cause serious abnormalities even in unborn babies, in addition to causing severe damage and discomfort for the mother.

Igboeli said that vaginal discharge with a foul odor can prevent a husband from engaging in sexual activities with his wife, which can trigger a marital crisis.

He urged women to make themselves presentable by cleanliness and to avoid infections through safe sex practices with the use of condoms to prevent infections.

According to him, it has been observed that many women use different creams to enhance the sexual experience.

He said that these vaginal lubricants influence the mobility and viability of sperm.
