Everton earn late draw against Chelsea
Doucoure and Simms score to secure point for Toffees
Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure headed home a ball on a corner kick to equalise the first time and then he dished the assist to super sub Simms, who shrugged off a Chelsea defender and fired the 2-2 equaliser as the clock struck 90 minutes.

Chelsea’s top-four hopes take blow
It’s a blow for Chelsea, who are trying to claw their way back up the table and perhaps even contend for a top-four place. But the Champions League quarterfinalists are stuck in 10th place, with a double-digit deficit from the top four.

Match details
Goals: CHE — Joao Felix — 53rd min. EVE — Abdoulaye Doucoure (James Tarkowski) — 69th min. CHE — Kai Havertz (penalty) — 76th min. EVE — Ellis Simms (Abdoulaye Doucoure) — 90th min.

95th min.: Chance Chelsea! Kai Havertz doesn’t head an appetizing cross from Reece James. And after two corner kicks, the whistle has gone. Everton has managed to draw it late.
90th min.: Goal Everton! It’s the sub Ellis Simms who scored it. He did so well to shrug off the defender and finish strongly past Kepa. What a time to get your first Premier League goal!
84th min.: SUBS. Both teams making changes.
76th min.: Penalty Chelsea! Converted by Kai Havertz. James Tarkowski brought down Reece James, who gets a yellow card for arguing with the Everton defender.
That’s three goals in three games for Havertz.
69th min.: Goal Everton! James Tarkowski gets a head to a corner kick, and Abdoulaye Doucoure heads it over the goal line. Kai Havertz’s goal-line clearance wasn’t good enough. The ball went over the line.
62nd min.: SUB Chelsea. Conor Gallagher on for Christian Pulisic.
59th min.: Chance Everton. On a set piece which came on a bookable offence by Koulibaly, it’s Michael Keane with a glancing header that misses the mark.
56th min.: Disallowed Chelsea goal! Fine finish from Christian Pulisic, but he was offside and well past the last defender on his run in behind.
53rd min.: Goal Chelsea! A Ben Chilwell first-time cross in the box is deflected into the path of Joao Felix, who fires through the legs of James Tarkowski and finds the back of the net.
49th min.: Chance Chelsea! A cross from Ben Chilwell is headed by Kai Havertz on goal and Jordan Pickford’s save is nearly redirected by Joao Felix.
46th min.: We’re back. No changes for either side.
Halftime: Chelsea are strong on the ball with some solid buildup play, but they can’t get in behind Everton or trouble goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. That’s a credit to Everton’s defending with numbers behind the ball.
Creativity lacking for Chelsea
Enzo Fernandez has been excellent in midfield, the back three have been solid, but Chelsea need more creativity and combination in attack. This game is crying out for Mykhaylo Mudryk. Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic have been clean, but Chelsea need them to take players on 1-on-1 and break down the Everton backline.
46th min.: Three minutes of stoppage time. And Dwight McNeil concedes a free kick just outside the box, getting a yellow card for his troubles. Chelsea get a couple of shots off, but Everton repel the chances.
42nd min.: Defensive play Koulibaly! He stops Dwight McNeil by poking the ball from his feet just outside the box, neutralising a rare Everton attack. That Chelsea back three really offers peace of mind.
41st min.: It looks like N’Golo Kante will be warming up during halftime. The question is when Graham Potter will decide to give him some minutes.
34th min.: Another sweeping build-up in attack from right to left and back to right, where Joao Felix fires. But it’s an easy stop for Jordan Pickford. Everton are doing well to keep Chelsea in front of them.
29th min.: Yellow card to Everton’s Gana Gueye for a foul that happened a minute or two prior on Christian Pulisic in midfield. Good decision by the referee, though Gana Gueye doesn’t like it.
25th min.: Joao Felix is dialed into the match. Check out this classy play by Chelsea’s best player on the day so far.
21st min.: Chance Chelsea! Nice buildup from Chelsea, and the ball goes wide left to Pulisic. The American crosses and Joao Felix gets a touch on the ball in the box, but Everton ‘keeper Jordan Pickford is attentive and snags it before it causes any issues.
11th min.: Chance Chelsea! Another Chelsea corner and Ben Chilwell’s delivery is headed by Kai Havertz just high of the target. Positive start by Chelsea.
5th min.: Chance Chelsea! A corner kick bounces out to Mateo Kovacic who from just inside the penalty area lets rip, but he doesn’t hit the target. If that’s on goal, it’s probably a goal.
1st min.: We’re off. Interesting to note that Christian Pulisic is playing on the left, Kai Havertz on the right, and Joao Felix is starting out in a central role.
60 mins from kickoff: Starting lineups are in with Christian Pulisic and Reece James back in the Chelsea starting lineup, while Everton field the lineup everyone expected.
75 mins from kickoff: As we awaiting lineups, here’s what Graham Potter had to say on the eve of the match about the turnaround and facing Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter finals.
80 mins from kickoff: Here’s video proof of N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge. We’ll see how many minutes he gets.
115 mins from kickoff: Things are looking up for Chelsea. Look who’s back in the squad for today’s game. But they’ll bring him on slowly given his last match was way back in August against Tottenham.
120 mins from kickoff: A Chelsea win or draw today would keep up their longest home unbeaten run against any team in Premier League history. Where were you in 1994
