Olayinka Shokoya

Speaking on the inspiration behind the competition, Mr Olayinka Shokoya, Founder of Elite Cup, said Nigeria is a country with people who are highly talented in all sports but with no platform to showcase them.

“Nigerians also perform well in Paralympics.

Nigerians see ability in disability when it comes to sports.

“Nigeria doesn’t harness talents here early like Brazil, Ecuador, America and other countries when it comes to sports.

“We have a lot of talented people out there with no platform to compete.

No platform to showcase their talents and I also found out that a lot of attention is going to the public schools and that led to ESCA.

Elite Schools Cup

“We brought ourselves together as friends and then we formed the Elite Schools Cup. In the next five years, I am seeing Elite Schools Cup covering the whole of Africa because we partner with Finland.

According to the founder, ESCA has partnerships in about seven countries in Africa as ESCA is projected to be a festival and Olympic of private schools in Africa.

According to him, about 100 schools will be participating in the competition which just included E-Sports and volleyball to make it seven sports to be competed in by participants.

Shokoya further called on well-meaning Nigerians, corporate organisations and individuals to key into the initiative as sponsors.

Sola Aiyepeku

Mr Sola Aiyepeku, the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, commended the organisers for their contribution to the social pillar of the Lagos state development agenda.

Oluyomi Oluwasanmi

Aiyepeku, who was represented by Mrs Oluyomi Oluwasanmi, Director of School Sport Directorate, said ESCA was delivering its social responsibilities to the student and youth population in the state, of which was a laudable venture.

Sports Commission

He said the state’s Sports Commission had been at the forefront of collaborating with “sports providing entities” which had given rise to numerous success stories of the commission in youth and sports development in the state.

“It’s been discovered that sport is the only platform where the three domains of educational objectives can be actualised in our children – mental alertness, emotional balance and social integration.

“There is no other platform that can bring about the actualisation of these three domains.

So we need to introduce sports to school for balanced development of the children.

” she said.

“School sport serves as a great platform to teach young students important life skills such as responsibility, descapline, hard work, commitment, teamwork and other values that aid their evolution into well rounded citizens who are ready for life as professionals and model citizens.

Lagos State Sports Commission

“ESCA aligns with the misson of the Lagos State Sports Commission which is  to build a strong foundation for a sustainable and viable sports culture and a vibrant industry that generates social and economic vaiue for Lagos and Lagosians.

Governor of the State

“This is in tandem with the Governor of the State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s Youth Engagement and Empowermert drive for “Greater Lagos” T.

H.E.M.E.S Agenda through Education and Sports.

Education and Sports

“Sports is an indispensable part of education.

Education and Sports are complementary of each other, hence our Slogan in Lagos State is “Stay in School, Stay in Sports,” he said.
