Eid ul-Adha 2025: Moon Don Show, Celebration Ready to Start

New Delhi, India – May 27, 2025: Na wa o, the moon don show! Muslims all over the world dey prepare to celebrate Eid ul-Adha after the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah.

This year, Eid ul-Adha go happen on June 6 for many countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, and the rest of the Arab world. Dis festival dey mark the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to God wey carry him to sacrifice im son. But instead, we go dey do the qurbani — dat one na when families dey sacrifice goats, cows, or sheep for the occasion. E sweet, no worry!

As Muslims dey gear up, e no just be about the ritual wey involve sacrifice. E also about family, togetherness, and of course, delicious food! Families dey dress in their best clothes, many of dem even buy new ones, like say na fashion show. After dat, dem dey attend special prayers for mosques or prayer grounds, dey give thanks and gather for the community.

Wetin dey motivate dis celebration, you ask? Na the spirit of sharing! After dem butcher the animal, dem go divide the meat into three parts. One for the family, one for friends and relatives, and the last one for the less privileged. Dis one dey make sure say everybody fit chop during di festive period (who no like free food?).

For Saudi Arabia, moon sighting committee confirm say dem see di crescent on May 27, meaning Eid go start sharp on June 6. Arafah Day, wey be day before Eid, go happen on June 5. But for some South Asian countries like India and Pakistan, dem go wait til May 28 to see di moon, and dem fit celebrate on June 7 or 8, depending on di sighting.

Hajj, di annual pilgrimage wey plenty Muslims dey embark on, go start on June 4 dis year. E dey happen for di eighth day of Dhul Hijjah. Everybody know say Hajj na one of di five pillars of Islam; so if you fit make am, abeg carry wahala-free vibes.

Make we no forget di food! This time of di year dey bring special traditional dishes like sheer khurma (a sweet vermicelli pudding that fit make your mouth water) and seviyan. Family go gather to enjoy these delicacies while dey share greetings and blessings.
