Eid: Abdulsalami urges bandits to repent and embrace peace

By Obinna Unaeze

The former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), called on the bandits to lay down their arms and repent for the peace and stability of the country.

Abdulsalami made the call Tuesday in an interview with reporters shortly after observing the rakaats prayers for Eid-al-Kabir in Minna.

“I prayed to Allah to touch the hearts of these bandits so that they can denounce banditry, kidnappings, cattle rustling and other criminal activities,” he said.

He said that peace and stability would ensure significant development of the country.

The former head of state, however, congratulated the Muslim Ummah and other Nigerians for attending this year’s celebrations.

He advised Nigerians to continue to remain peaceful and orderly and to help each other.

Likewise, Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger urged Nigerians to pray for the security agencies, regardless of ethnic and religious differences, to enable them to overcome the current security challenges that are troubling the nation.

Bello called on residents of the state to provide security agencies with useful information to enable them to tackle current security challenges.

The governor expressed optimism that the country would overcome the current security challenges.

In addition, Dr Babangida Aliyu, former governor of the state, advised Nigerians to support and collaborate with government and security agencies to achieve optimal results.

Aliyu also advised leaders at all levels to come up with policies aimed at reducing the current hardships faced by the country’s people.

Earlier, Malam Ibrahim Fari, chief imam of the central mosque of Minna who led the two rakaat prayers, prayed for peace.

Fari also slaughtered his ram, which allowed other Muslim worshipers to follow suit. (NAA)
