The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered 5.4 billion naira for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Professor Muhammad Sambo, executive secretary of NHIS, revealed this when he headed the agency’s management during a courtesy visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

“In total, the EFCC was able to recover around 5.4 billion naira out of the 12.085b N that were trapped.

“This is a monumental achievement and that is why we will make sure we remain good partners of the EFCC,” he said.

Sambo congratulated the EFCC on the recoveries and assured that every recovered kobo would be put to good use.

He also took the opportunity to brief the EFCC on NHIS reform efforts, which included recruiting healthcare professionals to strengthen the regime’s capacity to meet the aspirations of subscribers and other industry stakeholders.

In response, EFCC President Abdulrasheed Bawa, who was represented by Director of Operations Abdulkarim Chukkol, reiterated the commission’s determination to work with NHIS to achieve universal health coverage.

“The EFCC has no choice but to work with you to make you succeed.

“We will always make sure that the investigation that we conduct, we continue.

“We are happy that this is working and that any funds or funds recovered are being put to good use.

“We will therefore not relax our efforts to ensure that every lost Kobo is recovered for the benefit of the country,” he said. (NAA)
