Port Harcourt, Nigeria – E be like say change dey come for our oil refinery wahala as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) don recover serious cash from contractors and government officials wey dey involved for the fraud wey affect turn-around maintenance for our nation’s refineries. Dem don recover over N5 billion plus $10 million from these crooks after plenty investigation wey dem carry out.
EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, don put him own leg for ground level for this matter. Him no dey find am funny say our refineries no dey work, even after Nigeria don spend billions of public funds for maintenance. Wetin we go do now? Just dey import fuel like say na small pikin wey no fit grow!
Matter no gree end for there. EFCC dey follow up on fresh allegations wey go bring another N10 billion and $13 million wey dem suspect say people don use contractors to siphon out. Dem talk say as many as four refineries dey idle since God knows when, and dem don try fix am but for wetin? Na so we dey inside this oil wahala.
As the EFCC dey investigate, dem don drop plenty cash figures wey open people eye. Like the Port Harcourt refinery wey collect $1,559,239,084.36; Kaduna refinery wey get $740,669,600; and Warri refinery wey no allow us breath with $656,963,938. How come dem no fit do wetin dem suppose do? Na oil we dey talk about o, not toasting bread!
Nawa o! Dem say the contractors don dey play game with our money, with over-invoicing and contract inflation scatter all around. And you know what? Former management wey supposed oversee this matter don meet EFCC for “small talk” as dem dey investigate their dealings di whole time. They sabi say dem fit end up arrested if dem no fit explain wetin happen.
One source wey dey work for EFCC talk say, “We don recover N5 billion and $10 million so far. And we no finish o! More money dey on the way as we dey try recover another N10 billion and $13 million wey dem carry waka.” But make I ask, how these people manage to turn our national treasure to personal piggy bank? Na the question of the century!
And as this matter dey hot like pepper soup, some high-ranking officials, both serving and retired, from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) fit soon meet EFCC for court. Dem dey prepare plenty charges as the investigations don reach level wey no be joke.
“Di investigations no so simple, no be when dem just dey use rubber stamp. We dey seriously consider how these people go fit face the law before dem continue to chop money wey no be dia own. It’s time to show accountability!”
The EFCC still dey look into further allegations of contract inflation worth about $40 million wey dey involve some NNPCL officials and their contractor. E be like say dem wan turn dis whole oil restoration to comedy show. Everybody sef sabi say, without serious action, our refineries go dey enjoy this their “holiday” while we dey suffer.
As the EFCC dey hustle for the justice, consider wetin dey happen for your backyard o. No forget to ask questions; as dem dey shake table, we fit just see better results for our oil industry. All eyes dey on EFCC with plenty ‘chai’ under di palm wine now.
