Mr. Buba Wakawa, the agency’s state commander, revealed this in an interview with the Nigerian News Agency Benin on Thursday.
Wakawa said the seizures were made at two hidden warehouses discovered by the command in two communities in two local government areas of the state.
He explained that on November 23, acting with credible intelligence, agency staff broke into a storage facility in Uzzeba in the state’s Owas West local government area and evacuated 107 bags of suspected Cannabis Sativa weighing 1,240 kilograms ( 1,240 tons).
“Then, on November 24, the command discovered another hidden warehouse in the village of Uhiere in the local government area of northeast Ovia.
“Command personnel immediately went into action and a total of 315 bags of suspected cannabis sativa weighing 4,252 kilograms (4,252 tons) were evacuated and removed from circulation in a hidden warehouse.”
It added that a 21-year-old suspect was arrested during the raids.
It revealed that the two seizures were a major seizure in November, as the amount of suspected cannabis sativa was huge.
He added that there were other seizures made in November, which together brings the total seizure made in the month to 6,477.86 kilograms.
The commander further revealed that during the month under review, 22 suspects, including 18 men and four women, were arrested in connection with drug trafficking.
“However, the command secured 10 convictions during the period, while nine drug cases were filed in the Benin Federal High Court.
“We also counseled 13 clients for drug abuse during the period,” he said.
