Edo 2020: PDP National Chairman wants international community to back one man, one vote

Published

on

Prince Uche Secondus, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the International Communities to back one man, one vote, as Edo heads to the polls on Saturday.

Secondus made the call at the PDP mega rally tagged “Mother of all Rallies”, to climax the party’s campaign rallies for the governorship election.

He said that already the American Government had put more restrictions including visa restrictions on election riggers and their families.

He, therefore, called on other Democratic countries to do same to serve as deterrent to election riggers.

He stressed that election rigging must stop in Edo, and also charged the election umpire to ensure that the will of the people prevails.

He noted that this was more so as the Edo election “is special, as it is an election between the good and the bad, and between god-fatherism and total liberation/emaciation’’.

The PDP National Chairman said that because the candidate of the party, Gov. Godwin Obaseki, had performed in his first tenure the people should re-elect him.

He noted that security agencies had made promises to be neutral, non partisan and ensure security and protection of the electorate on Saturday.

“We want to see if they will fulfil their promise to ensure that it is one man, one vote, or there will be no election again in Nigeria,” he said.

Also, Gov. Nyesom Wike, National Campaign Council Chairman of the party, said the visit was to thank Edo people for the support given to Obaseki.

He, however, urged them to be vigilant and defend their votes.

Similarly, Sokoto Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, the Chairman, PDP Governors’ forum, and Delta Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Chairman of the South South Governors’ Forum called on Edo people to make it a date on Saturday to re-elect the party’s candidate.

The News Agency of Nigeria , reports that the more than 12,000 seating capacity Samuel Ogbeimudia Stadium, Benin, venue of the rally was filled to capacity.

NAN also reports the rally attracted eight governors elected on the platform of the PDP including: Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom); Ben Ayade (Cross River); and Okiezie Ikpeazu (Abia).

Others were Gov Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Sen. Douyi Diri of Bayalse, as well as Aminu Fintiri of Jigawa.

Obaseki in his remarks appreciated Edo people for their love and support for him and his running mate, Mr Philip Shaibu.

He disclosed that more than 200 groups had endorsed him adding that in spite of the threat from those planning on rigging the election he was riding on the shoulders to cruise to victory.

He reassured the people that more jobs would be created, more roads constructed and electricity improved in the second term.
