Calabar, April 19, 2019 Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River has called on Christian faithful to imbibe the virtues of peace, love, sacrifice and forgiveness which represents the core values of Easter.
Ayade made the call on Friday in a statement in Calabar in his Easter message signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Christian Ita.
He said: “Today represents a very significant moment in our lives as Christians.”
Ayade said that Easter was significant and sobering in the sense that it reminded us all about the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, love and compassion over hate.
He added that these virtues were the cardinal plans of Christ’s teachings while on earth.
Decrying the absence of compassion in today’s society, Ayade said: “In many ways, our society today lacks compassion as a way to internalise and experience the inner soul of the other person and the universe.
“We need to reintroduce compassion so that humanity may survive,” he said.
According to the governor, in line with the compassion which Christ demonstrated by laying down his life for us, we should replicate it to all men.
While urging for constant prayers for peace to reign in Cross River and Nigeria, Ayade noted that the peace enjoyed in the state was due to the prayers and support of all residents in the state.
“I urge everyone, in this season of Easter to continue in this momentum by upholding the values that seek to unite us rather than those that pull us apart,” he said,” he said.https://nnn.ng/easter-gov-ayade-sues-for-peace-compassion/
