Earning a living through car wash business

By Augusta Eke

Mr. Eke Emmanuel, a car wash operator in Lugbe, a suburb of the CTF, says the car wash business is lucrative and can be a major source of income.

Emmanuel, 36, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the business was more lucrative during the rainy season.

The rainy season is the most lucrative time for car wash companies, he says, as most drivers want to keep their cars clean at all times.

“When the rain falls, the roads are muddy and the drizzle which splashes on the body of the cars makes them dirty.

“At this time, car owners usually visit the car wash, I earn almost N5,000 per day, and from this business I feed my family,” he said.

Emmanuel, however, described some of the requirements needed to start a car wash business, including funds, a good location, and company registration, in order to avoid constant disruption of the working group.

He also said that anyone interested in the car wash business should also print free cards to encourage sponsorship.

Mr. Yemi Adeleke, owner of a car wash in the Kubwa area, aligned with Emmanuel’s observations, noting that the business was good.

Adeleke said the only thing to face in the business is that some customers are hard to please.

Another car wash dealer, Mr. Uche Goodluck, said one of the main challenges for the business is liquid car wash soap, which is on the rise.

He said washing soaps was expensive due to the high cost of importing chemicals used in soap production.

“The dollar rate is high; customers are unwilling to pay extra fees, washing a car regularly is crucial as it helps to extend the color life of such a car, ” he said. (NAA)
