Dynamo Kyiv Set to Clash with Polissia Zhytomyr as League Race Heats Up

Kyiv, Ukraine – FC Dynamo Kyiv go face FC Polissia Zhytomyr for important Ukrainian Premier League clash on May 7, 2025. This match marks the teams’ first meeting this season, as they aim to secure vital points in the title race with only a few games remaining.

Polissia, who got promoted to the UPL last season, has faced Dynamo just three times until now, and their record includes two players who have managed to find the back of the net against the Kyiv team: Borys Krushynskyi and Oleksii Hutsuliak. Both players have already made significant contributions to their club.

In addition, Hutsuliak also scored twice against Dynamo while playing for Dnipro-1 in the 2023/2024 season. Some other notable players who have netted against the White-Blues include Oleksandr Nazarenko, Eduard Sarapii, and Bohdan Mykhailychenko, who all scored at least once against Dynamo in previous seasons while playing for different clubs.

On the side of Dynamo, the leading goalscorer against Polissia is Vitalii Buialskyi, with three goals under his belt. He is closely followed by Vladyslav Vanat with two, and both Mykola Shaparenko and Andrii Yarmolenko each have one goal against the Zhytomyr side. Mykola Mykhailenko and Oleksandr Pikhalionok also managed to score once last season while representing their former clubs.

The match will not only be crucial for league standings as Dynamo currently sits at the top of the table with 67 points after 27 matches, but it will also set the stage for exciting competition as Polissia seeks to establish itself in the top tier.

Meanwhile, new Dynamo recruit Angel Torres recently shared his excitement about joining the club. He expressed appreciation for the team’s structure and discipline compared to leagues he has previously played in.

“I’m very happy to be here. I want to stay and help the team win the title this season,” Torres said during an interview. He acknowledges having followed Dynamo’s history and the significance of possibly winning the third star on their emblem through a league title.

Despite being in Ukraine for just a week, Torres has been quick to learn about the traditions and culinary delights of his new home, mentioning his fondness for borshch. He emphasized his commitment to contribute to the team’s success, noting his goal to win as many trophies as possible wearing Dynamo’s colors.

Overall, the match on May 7 is more than just three points; it represents an opportunity for both teams to make a statement in the league’s competitive landscape. Dynamo will look to solidify their lead, while Polissia aims to establish their presence against one of Ukraine’s most successful clubs.
