Dutch Club Feyenoord Equal Biggest UEFA Europa League Win Record with 7-1 Victory over Shakhtar Donetsk

Dutch club Feyenoord equaled the biggest UEFA Europa League win record by beating Ukrainian team Shakhtar Donetsk 7-1 in a Round of 16 second leg match Thursday.

The victory not only saw Feyenoord progress to the next round, but it also put them in the record books as they equaled Olympique Lyon’s scoreline against AZ Alkmaar in 2017.

Goal Scorers

The seven goals for Feyenoord came from six different players. Turkish midfielder Orkun Kokcu scored twice in the 24th and 38th minutes, while Dutch forward Oussama Idrissi also scored two in the 49th and 60th minutes.

Santiago Gimenez, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, and Danilo Pereira were the other players who netted for the hosts, in the 9th, 64th and 67th minutes respectively.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s only goal came from Venezuelan forward Kevin Kelsy in the 87th minute, a mere consolation in a game where they were outclassed.

Quarterfinals Awaits

With the 7-1 win, Feyenoord progressed to the quarterfinals of the Europa League, where they will face Swiss side Young Boys.

Having scored seven goals in a knockout game of a major European competition, Feyenoord will be riding high on confidence and will hope to use this momentum to progress further in the competition.
