Waziri, a former EFCC boss, said NDLEA’s spectacular accomplishments over the past four months were commendable.

“It is amazing and commendable how the President, retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, transformed the NDLEA and the war on drug abuse and trafficking.

“We are amazed by the intelligence, ethics and strategies that drive the new NDLEA.

“In the organization, we appreciate these efforts and also find areas of interest in the wave of new developments at NDLEA.

“The first is the agency’s advocacy campaign, an area that could be mutually beneficial for NDLEA and one of our initiatives, Concerned Nigerian Women Against Drug Abuse.

“The new leadership of NDLEA has challenged society to stand up against drug addiction and many groups and organizations have since answered the call.

“We don’t want to be left behind; the organization has an interest in combating drug abuse.

“We are planning to organize a ‘Tell Your Story’ event to coincide with International Drug Abuse Day in 2021.

“The event intends to present individuals such as reformed drug addicts, parents, children and young adults to report on their past experiences with substance abuse.

“We are ready to partner with the NDLEA, because as the 2023 general election approaches, the time is almost right,” she said.

In response, Marwa congratulated Waziri on establishing the organization.

Marwa said the country faces the challenge of drug abuse.

“We have said and we still stick to it to run drug tests for politicians, students and other government officials.

“You cannot entrust the lives and property of Nigerians in the hands of people whose heads are not upright because of drug use.

“I want to take this opportunity to say that the mandate rests with all Nigerians to meet this challenge.

“I also want to urge the organization to tackle the issue of stigma, especially against women who have a drug problem, knowing they need help but out of fear of stigma.

“Likewise, parenthood is very important. You have to start in elementary school. I am convinced that we will soon bring out the best of the scourge in the country, ”he said. (NAA)
