Dosu says Super Eagles need more Grade A friendlies

By Muhyideen Jimoh

Former international Joseph Dosu on Tuesday called for more A-grade friendlies for the Super Eagles to ensure greater cohesion within the squad.

Dosu made the call shortly after the Super Eagles’ draw against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a second friendly on Tuesday in Vienna, Austria.

He told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) that the outcome of the match was not the most important but the overall game and the discovery of new players for the team.

“I think it’s just a friendly game, for the coaches to see more new players for the team.

“For me, it’s not the score that counts but the overall performance of the team,” said the former Super Eagles goaltender.

The hero of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics said that the fact that some of Nigeria‘s first team players were unable to make the match due to injuries could have affected their game.

“It’s an off-season game and I think the boys tried to make it to camp but few couldn’t because of injuries.

“I think we should praise the boys for what they have done. But there is still a lot of room for improvement thanks to more friendlies, especially those in category A, ”he added.

Dosu urged the technical team to continue monitoring players when Championship competitions in Europe resume ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.

He expressed optimism that Nigeria would eventually qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

NAN report that Cameroon beat the Super Eagles 1-0 in the previous friendly played on Friday while Tuesday’s game ended scoreless in the same spot. (NOPE)
