What is Swarm About?
Swarm is set between 2016 and 2018 and follows Dre, a young woman obsessed with one of the world’s biggest pop stars. Her obsession takes a dark turn and Dre sets off on an eventful cross-country journey. The synopsis doesn’t give a lot away, but the show premiered at SXSW ahead of its streaming debut, with critics hinting that it’s twisted and propulsive. The pop star Dre is a fan of is eerily similar to the real-life Beyoncé. Buzzing bees create an ominous atmosphere in the trailer, with the show posing an interesting question: what if a dedicated fan went really bad? Given the theme, Swarm will likely explore topics related to mental health and fandom. The series stars Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah), Chloë Bailey (Grown-ish) and Damson Idris (Snowfall). Swarm was created by Donald Glover (Community, Atlanta) and writer Janine Nabers (Atlanta, Watchmen).
