Abuja, Jan. 20, 2019 (NNN) An academic, Prof. Amadi Ozuogu, has joined the clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria, saying that the country can never move forward without restructuring.
Ozuogu, who is a lecturer at the University of Bonn in Germany, made the call at the launch of his book: “The Un-United State of Nigeria,’’ in Abuja on Sunday.
He noted that the current federal system of government was fundamentally defective and one-sided in practice and did not guarantee equity, justice and fairness.
“First it shows that Nigeria has been un-united before and after the British amalgamation of 1914 and how they exploited the disunity among us.
“There is ample evidence of marginalisation, discrimination and domination by one ethnic group.
“Appointments and siting of projects are being done with heavy dose of politics and nepotism.’’
Ozuogu, who is a linguist, said the solution to the socio-political tension being experienced in Nigeria was to restructure the country urgently.
He argued that restructuring would reduce tension in the polity and create a more equitable Nigeria with a prospect for national unity and peace.
The don said that his book would enlighten the public on the unjust foundation of colonialism that had resulted to the present state of anarchy in Nigeria.
The reviewer of the book, Mr Frank Tietie, recommended the book to all academic institutions in the country to keep students abreast with the past, present and future of Nigeria.
Tietie urged Nigerians to develop a reading culture for better understanding and awareness of situations in the country. (NNN)
