Keeper Efficiency

The DFL and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced the newest Bundesliga Match Facts (BMF) powered by AWS which will debut during Matchday 26. The first new Match Fact is called Keeper Efficiency, which is based on xSaves, revealing the probability of a shot on goal being saved. This provides real-time data by analysing each individual shot on goal, including the distance of the shooter, the angle to the goal, and the precise position of the goalkeeper, comparing it to data from past shots taken. It calculates the probability that the goalkeeper will make a save, and Keeper Efficiency is the cumulation of individual values that match the expectations.

Ball Recovery Time

Ball Recovery Time is an algorithm-based statistic that measures how long it takes for a team to recover the ball after they lose possession of the ball. It is calculated down to the second, and records a team’s strategy, the stage of the match, and the scoreline to get an accurate measurement. Teams may choose different tactics to recover the ball, but Ball Recovery Time tracks and records the time it takes, and the data can enhance understanding about the tackling performances of each team.

DFL and AWS Partnership

The DFL and AWS have worked together since 2020 on various projects, including data analytics with innovative statistics, resulting in the Bundesliga Match Facts powered by AWS. They provide enhanced analysis to help audiences understand team performance, game strategy, and the performances of their favourite players. With the newly added Match Facts, there are now 14 in total, including Win Probability, Skill, and Attacking Zones. These will be made available on broadcasts, Bundesliga platforms, and the Bundesliga app.

Comprehensive Data Collection

The DFL gathers and analyses 3.6 million data points from each game in real-time, using a combination of AWS analytics, machine learning tools, computing, storage, database, and serverless services. With the addition of Keeper Efficiency and Ball Recovery Time to the Match Facts, audiences can delve deeper into the strategies that teams use during their matches.
