She noted that the club’s intention was to catch them young, adding that children were the future champions.

“We are there to train the children and select the future golf champions from among them.

“After two weeks of intensive training which will be at the same time mental, physical and educational, we intend to select the best of them who will represent the club at the next National Junior Open.

“The Junior Open, which is a national tournament, takes place a week after this particular event and will welcome children from all over the country.

“So I urge all the kids at this clinic to work hard, stay strong and focus while you learn not only the game of golf itself, but the etiquette of the game,” said the captain. .

Joy Ikwue, the club’s vice-captain, also revealed that more than 100 children attend the clinic, adding that it is aimed at children aged 5 to 18.

“We are very happy to have seen such a participation of children who have shown interest in the game today and we are happy that they are all already having fun.

“The children are divided into three categories namely: five to 10 years old, 11 to 15 years old and 16 to 18 years old respectively.

“We’ve been doing this for over a decade now and it’s an annual event that has always been chaired by the club’s vice-captain and has already produced outstanding young golfers.

“One of those talents is 19-year-old Georgia Oboh, who made her name in the history books as Africa’s youngest and first female golfer on the world stage,” she said.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the clinic which started on Monday is scheduled to end on August 6. (NOPE)
