Democracy: Gov. Bello of Niger reassures residents of continuous growth

Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello of Niger reassured residents of the state of his continued commitment to accelerate development in all sectors.

Bello revealed this in a statement by Ms Mary Noel-Berje, his chief press secretary, to Minna on Saturday to mark Democracy Day.

The governor noted that the state, despite various challenges, has had a significant impact on some key sectors of the economy.

He said that in the area of ​​security and disaster management, the state government has provided more than 400 operational vehicles, vans, motorcycles, bicycles and tricycles to conventional security agencies over the past six years.

Bello said this was in addition to the 70 operational trucks and 2,300 motorcycles distributed as mobility support to the state vigilante group.

He said the government was also funding numerous operations carried out by security agencies and the payment of allowances to self-defense and sponsorship groups for children of vigilantes killed in encounters to contain banditry and other criminal activities.

The governor said the state government has also injected billions of naira into providing camps, relief supplies and health services to people displaced across the state due to insecurity and flooding. .

He said 10 fire stations have been reconstructed and equipped in 10 local government areas, and the recruitment of more firefighters for effective and efficient service delivery.

He added that the state fire department’s pay scale has been rationalized with that of its counterparts at the federal level as well as the establishment of the Zone Fire Department in Minna.

On health, the governor said he has built, rejuvenated sick structures and modernized primary health care facilities in the state’s 274 constituencies.

He said that secondary and tertiary health care facilities have also received special attention with ongoing reconstruction and expansion works, as well as obtaining accreditation for Bida Nursing School for the first time since its inception over 40 years ago.

Bello is also renovating and building some selected schools as well as classrooms, hostels, staff quarters, furniture and laboratory equipment in the three senatorial zones of the state.

He added that the Professional Teacher Development Institute (NSTPDI) in Dandaudu and other geopolitical areas had also been established to give the teaching profession a solid and solid base in the state.

He said the government had built and renovated more than 2,500 additional classrooms, toilets, and boreholes in elementary and secondary schools in collaboration with the federal government.

Regarding agriculture, he said that the current administration has supported the CBN Anchor Borrowers program to contribute to the national food security policy and provide opportunities in the agricultural value chain.

Others were the purchase of 500 tractors and the fertilizer subsidy each year for rural farmers across the state to stimulate mechanized agriculture.

He said that the state had renovated and set up a new irrigation scheme in Tamanai, area of ​​the local government of Borgu, reactivation of four existing schemes, creation of 30 hectares of oil palm plantation.

Others were the revitalization and modernization of the Tegina Agricultural Institute, Mokwa Agricultural School as well as its study center in Kuta.

He said the government has also created a 33,731 hectare multi-million Naira Bobi grazing reserve which has been published in the Official Gazette.

He said the grazing reserve, which was a model in the country, was to boost meat and dairy production, generate income and resolve conflicts between farmers and herders, adding that the reserve had been opened to investors for produce milk locally.

Bello said the government has duplicated several kilometers of roads across the state, rebuilt and rehabilitated many township roads, and completed many road projects inherited from the previous administration.

He added that the current administration had supported a partnership program with international development partners under the Rural Access Mobility Program (RAMP) which had so far constructed a number of rural roads and crossings. of rivers.

Others were preparing roads built by RAMP at a cost of 6 billion naira.

He noted that the government has purchased hydraulic equipment such as low and high lift pumps, overhauled hydraulic facilities throughout the state, drilled more than 100 solar-powered and 200 hand-pumped wells while more than 300 have been rehabilitated.

The governor said the efforts won the state government support from USAID through the E-WASH program, as the program aimed to improve service delivery and make the sector more commercial and financially viable.

Regarding transport, Bello said the current administration purchased 64 buses for the public transport authority as part of efforts to promote the smooth flow of goods and services across the country. (NAA)
