Danzago says Ganduje conducted parallel congress, insists “APC headquarters recognises us”

Newly elected All Progressives Congress, APC, faction chair in Kano state Ahmadu Haruna Zago said his faction held a legal congress recognized by the party’s national headquarters.

While Mr. Danzago became chairman of a congress held in Janguza, an area on the outskirts of Kano city, Abdullahi Abbas became chairman of the state-backed congress held at Sani Abacha Stadium.

But in an interview with DAILY NIGERIAN on Sunday evening, Mr Danzago said the congress organized by the faction led by state governor Abdullahi Ganduje was null and void as it neither met the requirements of the law. nor to the support of the national secretariat of the festival.

“Our congress is the one recognized by law and the headquarters of APC. We have met all the requirements. The reference made by the national office concerns those who organized a parallel congress, not us.

“First of all, Abdullahi Abbas never paid tax and did not resign from his post as interim president before the congress was held. In its documents submitted to the party’s headquarters, there is no tax certificate.

“Second, our result was announced by Prof. Mohammed Sani Bello, who was sent from APC headquarters to oversee our congress. Now tell me the name of the person who oversaw their parallel convention.

“Second, they made consensus when other candidates when there are other candidates who wanted to participate in the process. But in our case, although Nura Hassan Ungogo and Babanlungu stepped down for me, the election nonetheless took place, ”Danzago said.

But when DAILY NIGERIAN contacted Mr. Abbas, he refuted all of Mr. Danzago’s claims, saying the APC headquarters did not recognize any faction in the state.

He said the APC national headquarters only deals with the Ganduje-led APC in the state, and that he sent a congressional committee that was vetted by police and other security agents. .

Mr Abbas also said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, oversaw their election as required by law, while Mr Danzago’s parallel congress was not overseen by INEC.

On the alleged non-payment of tax, he said he included his recent tax clearance certificate in the form he submitted to the party secretariat.

“It’s even laughable to say that I didn’t include a tax certificate in my form. We have ensured that all the requirements of the law are met, ”he said.

Regarding the resignation allegations, Abbas said he resigned 34 days before the election. “Although as interim president, I don’t even need to resign, but in order to fill any legal loopholes, I resigned on September 12, 2021, which is 34 days before convention. -your ? “
