Daniel Ricciardo gets his mojo back as Red Bull reveals former driver picked up bad habits
Ricciardo takes on reserve and testing duties with Red Bull
Following a frustrating two years, Daniel Ricciardo, parting ways with McLaren, decided to spend a year helping out as Red Bull’s third driver for 2023. Red Bull will use him for reserve and testing duties throughout the year.
Red Bull puts Ricciardo back into its simulator
Ricciardo was put back in Red Bull’s simulator to get back up to speed with the current car developments. Having observed his driving, it was revealed that he had picked up some bad habits in his time away from the squad at Renault and McLaren. Christian Horner, Red Bull team principal, suspects that when driving a car that has limitations, drivers adapt and adjust to extract the maximum out of it.
Red Bull sees improvements in Ricciardo’s driving
Horner commented on Ricciardo’s improvement, stating that he seems to like the feel of the car in the virtual world, which seems to correlate well with what they’re seeing in the actual world. Ricciardo is attending his first grand prix of the season in Australia this weekend and is entrenched in the Red Bull squad. He’s been working hard on the simulator in the UK doing some race support and some development work on that.
Ricciardo’s love for the sport rekindled
Horner is positive that Ricciardo has rediscovered his love for the sport despite not being a race driver this weekend. Ricciardo will do some testing later in the year to see how that goes for him. Horner added that Ricciardo is a positive energy to have around and it’s great to see him getting his mojo back.
