COVID-19: NCDC reports 376 new infections in Nigeria

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 376 new infections and 35 additional deaths on Saturday, due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

That’s according to data released by the NCDC on Sunday.

The Public Health Agency revealed that the 376 new cases had been reported in 14 states.

“Lagos (215), Rivers (82), Ondo (16), Imo (14), Plateau (12), Kaduna (10), Kwara (9), Ekiti (4), Bauchi (3), Delta (3) , Kano (3), Sokoto (3), Nasarawa (1) and Oyo (1).

Nigeria’s news agency reports that the 376 new cases reported on Saturday indicate an increase from the 167 cases in the country reported on Friday.

According to the center, to date 2,091.73 cases have been confirmed, 1,970.84 cases have been released and 2,804 deaths have been recorded in the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He noted that the country’s active cases now stood at 9,265.

The agency further said that more than 3,142,971 samples of the virus from the country’s roughly 200 million people have been tested.

He noted that a multisectoral National Emergency Operations Center (COU), activated at level 2, continued to coordinate national response activities.

The NCDC, however, has advised Nigerians that home care should be provided to COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms only on the advice of trained and appointed health workers.

“Patients and caregivers must strictly adhere to the criteria for home isolation and other infection prevention and control measures.
