COVID-19: NCDC registers 9 deaths, 284 new infections

By Abujah Racheal The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 284 additional COVID-19 infections with nine related deaths in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The NCDC made this known via its verified website on Tuesday.

Nigeria‘s news agency reports that the new cases indicate an increase from the 78 cases reported in the country on Sunday.

According to the NCDC, the new infections brought the total number of infections in the country to 207,978.

He said the FCT led with 67 cases, followed by Kaduna State in the northwest and Rivers State in the southwest with 33 and 31 cases, respectively.

“While Anambra state in the southeast has recorded 23 cases, Lagos and Osun states in the southwest have recorded 22 cases each.

“In addition, the south-south states of Cross River and Edo have recorded 18 cases each.

“Ondo state in the southwest has 13 cases, followed by three states in the north-central: Plateau, Nasarawa and Kwara states, with 12, six and five cases, respectively.

“While Imo State recorded four cases, Benue State and Niger State registered three and two cases respectively.

“Five states: Delta, Ekiti, Jigawa, Ogun and Oyo states each recorded one case.

The NCDC added that two states: Bauchi and Kano did not register any cases on Monday, ”he said.

The agency also added that Edo State has reported a backlog of 101 case recoveries, including discharge from the community.

The public health agency said the new infections recorded brought the country’s total death toll to 2,756.

He said 195,626 cases have been resolved and released, while 9,597 remain with the disease.

The NCDC says more than 3,142,971 million virus samples from approximately 200 million people nationwide have been tested.

He added that a multisectoral National Emergency Operations Center (COU), activated at level 2, continues to coordinate national response activities.
