Adeyemi said that the ban placed on gatherings in churches, mosques and other public places by the Federal Government to avoid the spread of the virus was commendable.

He said that the students’ body was aware of the crucial role of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the collaborating efforts of health practitioners and other civil society organisations.

The NANS spokesperson called on NCDC to be more proactive in attending to COVID-19 cases, saying that the pandemic should be addressed aggressively.

“Students are in full support of the closure of all federal government-owned institutions from federal colleges of education to universities.

Nigerian students should please abide by the guidelines released by the Federal Government in curbing and mitigating the effect of the deadly virus,’’ he said.

Adeyemi called for accountability in the administration of any counterpart fund received by government and organisations to combat and curtail the spread of Coronavirus.

“NANS stands with the Nigeria government and indeed, the entire world at this trying time.

“As part of efforts to curtail the virus, NANS will be embarking on aggressive sensitisation through the social media platforms to mobilise Nigerians to follow the directives of the government and adhere to them,’’ he said.

Adeyemi, however, pleaded with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and direct retailers not to take advantage of this pandemic to inflate prices of commodities.
