Court Workers Strike: Justice No Dey for Naija Again!

Lagos, Nigeria – E be like Niger wey don turn to wahala again as Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) don begin nationwide strike wey don lock plenty courts for over the country. As wey dem strike start on Sunday, June 1, 2025, Court of Appeal for Lagos and Federal High Court wey dey Ikoyi no show face again. Even the Edo State Federal High Court wey dey for Benin no dey open again, all be because of dis strike.

JUSUN say dem gatz take dis strike step after dem try negotiate with Federal Government, but e no work. Dem don dey shout say dem no fit chop with the N70,000 minimum wage wey dem dey owe, plus five-month wage wey dey on hold and the 25/35 percent salary increase wey dem gree before.

No be small matter as di Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, try intervene, but some of dem wey dey work for Supreme Court and National Judicial Council no join strike. However, many state chapters continue with di strike. As court gates dey locked, all the judges and lawyers just dey waka around like lost chickens. Dem dey frustrated no be small.

Litigants wey don travel come from all parts of the state for their cases na dem dey suffer pass. One paddy wey get case talk say, “This one dey too frustrating! My matter don chop several adjournments before, and now court dey locked. Wetin I go do?” (Na wah o!)

Inside Lagos, court wey dey Igbosere and Oyinkan Abayomi Drive no show again, as security man dey give people “No entry” sign. Lawyers dey gree with members of di public say this strike dey mess up justice. One senior lawyer talk say, “E no be only gate dey lock, na dem dey deny people their chance for court. Dis backlog go just dey pile up!”

As di madness no fit stop, di Federal High Court and Court of Appeal for Abuja still lock their gates as them comply with di strike vibes, but Supreme Court dey waka like dem no wan join body. Na wetin concern dem, abi?

Meanwhile, di Cross River Court wey suppose dey open on Monday also lock up. One paddy wey go court say she don reach her duty post only to hear say court don close. She come dey ask when dem go call off di strike, but nobody fit give am clear answer. She just dey hope say government go do di necessary.

Marwan Adamu, di National President of JUSUN, talk say strike go continue tomorrow, as dem no reach any conclusion for di meeting wey dem organize. He come talk am like dis, “We hold meeting, but dem no reach am. So, make we continue with di strike.” E be like say dem no wan relax small o!

Nigerians don dey suffer, no be joke! Di courts wey suppose dey dispense justice now dey turn to ghost towns. Hope say dis wahala no go last too long, abeg, we dey need di system to work again!
