Abuja, Nigeria – Federal High Court don warn Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, against behaviour wey fit lead to disbarment. Justice James Omotosho caution Ejimakor say make e no dey spread misinformation for social media.
This warning come follow letter wey lead prosecuting counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), write on May 14, as im express worry about live streaming and recording of court proceedings. Awomolo talk say the public display dey “embarrassing” and accuse Ejimakor of misleading posts on social media, urging court make dem require people to drop their phones before dem enter.
Defence counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), accepted the complaint and apologize on behalf of the team. Justice Omotosho stress im dedication to a fair and fast trial, pointing out say some delays dey happen because of tactics from lawyers wey no wan make trials end for personal reasons.
Justice Omotosho remember when he preside over the 2024 trial of 50 IPOB members wey end with dem acquitting the suspects after quick hearing. “The noise outside no suppose distract us from the reason we dey here,” he talk, urging all lawyers to act professionally.
As court proceed, dem continue cross-examination of the second prosecution witness, Mr. BBB from the Department of State Services (DSS). Under questioning by defence counsel Paul Erokoro (SAN), the witness clarify say he no sabi if Radio Biafra still dey operate, and him information come from DSS wey dey monitor broadcasts.
When dem ask am whether Kanu talk say dem kidnap am for Kenya, him reply say Kanu sample that claim, but verification no dey his job. He also deny any involvement of DSS in foreign operations, stating say DSS dey work only within Nigeria.
BBB claim say Kanu dey incite violence through him Radio Biafra broadcasts, especially during the #EndSARS protests. He accuse Kanu of linking him speeches to destructions wey happen, including police station and court burning cases. He mention some killings wey dem link to Kanu’s broadcasts, including an army couple and a retired judge.
Erokoro don submit true copies of judgments from three different fundamental rights lawsuits wey favor Kanu. One of the judgments awarded Kanu N1 billion as damages for the military invasion of him home for 2017. The court admit the documents as evidence.
As the session end, Erokoro request for adjournment to prepare video evidence for court. Justice Omotosho agree and adjourn case to May 22 for continuation of cross-examination.
