A Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday, remanded a 20-year-old mechanic, Abba Ibrahim, in custody for allegedly causing grievous harm by dangerous means.
The Judge, Abdullahi Jibrin, ordered that Ibrahim be kept at the correctional facility in Abuja, pending determination of his bail application on Dec. 16.
Ibrahim had pleaded not guilty to charges of joint acts, criminal force without provocation, voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous means, extortion and belonging to a gang of thieves.
The Prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that one Hassan Haruna of Angwan Hausawa, Karu, Abuja, had reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Nov. 16.
“The complainant alleged that on the fateful day, he went to a nearby riverside to defecate and while at the spot, the defendant and one Suleiman, now at large, attacked him with wooden plank and iron.
“In the process, they inflicted serious injury on the complainant’s mouth and teeth, after which he was rushed to ECWA Clinic, Karu, where he is still receiving treatment, with an estimated bill of N10,000.
“It was also discovered that the defendant and his accomplice dispossessed the complainant of the sum of N4,000 and one Techno mobile phone, valued at N7,500,” Adeyanju told the court.
He added that during police investigation, it was found out that the defendant allegedly belonged to a gang of thieves terrorising Karu and environs.
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened Sections 79, 265, 248, 292 and 306 of the Penal Code.
