An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Tuesday remanded a bricklayer, Muideen Adekanmi, 25, in prison over alleged N22,000 theft.
Adekanmi pleaded guilty to one-count charge of stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs Muhibah Olatunji, refused the defendant bail.
Olatunji, therefore, ordered the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife Prison pending the presentation of facts of the case.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 19 at about 7:30 p.m., at Sabo area, Ile-Ife.
“The defendant stole a purse containing N 22,000 and a techno phone that costs N 5,000, ‘’ he said.
According to him, the offence contravened Sections 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the defendant was not legally represented.
