Court remands 2 over alleged armed robbery in Ikorodu
An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of two armed robbery suspects at a correctional centre, pending advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The defendants, Adewale Mayowa, 19 and Ishola Olashile, 19, whose pleas were not taken, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, adjourned the case till Feb. 13, for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendants, whose addresses were not provided, committed the offence on Dec.10, 2019 in Ikorodu.
Famuyiwa said that the defendants, with others now at large, armed with a knife, robbed one Bajeh Peters of his mobile phone, valued at N10,000.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 411 and 297(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Nigeria News Agency reports that Section 297 stipulates death sentence after conviction for armed robbery while Section 411 stipulates two years in imprisonment for conspiracy.
