Court Don Freeze Four Jaiz Bank Accounts for Ex-NNPC Boss, Mele Kyari

Abuja, Nigeria – E be like say wahala don show for the ex-boss of NNPC, Mele Kyari as Federal High Court for Abuja don order to freeze four of him Jaiz Bank accounts. Na on Tuesday, Justice Emeka Nwite carry this order come after EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) file ex-parte motion say make dem freeze the accounts over serious allegations of fraud.

According to the EFCC counsel, Ogechi Ujam, dem still dey run investigation on top the matter and need more time to complete dem findings. Justice Nwite tear the court paper talk say, “I don listen to wetin EFCC talk and check the affidavit evidence wey dem bring. This application get merit, and I go grant am as dem request.” E adjourn the case go September 23, just to check wetin don happen next.

The EFCC don show say dem dey investigate Kyari for conspiracy, abuse of office, and money laundering. Na im make dem take action on four accounts dem mark with FHC/ABJ/CS/1641. Among the accounts wey dem freeze get Mele Kyari account and two accounts linked to Guwori Community Development Foundation. According to EFCC, the accounts dey hold around N661.5 million wey dem suspect say na proceeds of illegal activities.

Amin Abdullahi, wey be EFCC investigator, talk say na dem receive petition from Guardian of Democracy and Rule of Law last April 24. He explain say after dem collect the petition, him team come do plenty investigations, including collecting bank records and meeting with company representatives. Abdullahi reveal say plenty money wey dey enter Kyari account na from NNPCL and oil companies wey dey do business with NNPC.

Na so this kind money transaction dey go, as dem dey wrap am up as if na transfer for book launch or NGO activities. Na serious business o! EFCC don already send letters to Jaiz Bank to collect all the account details since the matter don come public, and e don serve no-debit order on the accounts to prevent any funny movement as dem dey wait for court intervention.

Mr. Kyari don talk say he no gree with EFCC allegations wey come up, insisting say he dey on rest after serious work for NNPC, and e no be like say dem don arrest am. ‘I dey ready to account for my stewardship,’ he yan. But that one na part of the bigger EFCC probe wey don catch about 14 current and former NNPC officials as dem gather evidence on how funds meant for refinery rehabilitation don waka enter personal accounts of some top officials.

Dem still dey find solution to save the Nigerian oil industry, and na from this investigation wey President Bola Tinubu don put new people like Bashir Ojulari and Ahmadu Kida for NNPCL to bring back investor confidence. E no easy at all, but we dey watch how this drama go play out.
