The Council Chairman, Prof. Dakas CJ Dakas, made the promise in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria   on Monday in Ibadan, on the outcomes of a week-long visitation tour of the institution.

According to him, the polytechnic Governing Council will engage constructively critical stakeholders and explore areas of mutual collaboration to make the institution to stand tall, among equals.

Dakas had led other members of the council on-the-spot assessment of facilities at the permanent and temporary sites of the polytechnic in Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government area and Iresa-Apa in Surulere Local Government area respectively.

The team also engaged the local government chairmen, traditional rulers and the Divisional Police Officers in all the five council areas in Ogbomosoland, namely: Ogo-Oluwa, Surulere, Orire, Ogbomoso North and South.

He told NAN that the assessment was to basically know how far the council has come, areas of needs, what the challenges are.

Dakas said that his team, during the tour, had solicited for the support of key stakeholders for the smooth take-off of the institution.

“There are obviously areas of need and in our interactions with various stakeholders.

“We have underscored the need for them to support the institution and some of them are already supporting the institution in different ways.

“We are grateful to all of them, but we will continue to still engage them, hoping that we will all be on board to do the best in order to ensure that we achieve our objectives,” he said.

Dakas, stressing the importance of constant engagement of the host communities, said though, the Federal Government established the institution, “it isn’t located in the air”.

“We will continue to seek areas of partnership and collaboration, so that together the objective for which government established the institution would be accomplished.”

On the strength of the assessment, Dakas commended the institution management team led by the Rector, Dr Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, for the work it has been able to accomplish, encouraging the team to continue doing its best.

He said that reports received from the institution management team was encouraging in terms of the support, cooperation and solidarity people of the host communities and Ogbomosoland in general have shown.

Dakas assured the communities of benefiting immensely from the presence of the polytechnic in their domains.

He said Ayede remained the permanent site of the institution, adding that its location was a Federal Government policy as expressed in the legal instrument establishing it.

The chairman, however, indicated that academic activities would commence at the temporary site situated in Iresa-Apa, while the council would do its best to ensure that erection of structures start in earnest at the permanent site, Ayede.

“Our dream is to commence academic activities within the year, but outcomes of the resource verification team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to the institution would determine

“We are already in touch with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), as soon as we get the green light from the regulatory body,(NBTE), we will swing into action.”

Corroborating the chairman, the FEDPA Rector, Prof. Abdul-Hameed, said the polytechnic would commence academic activities with 12 courses.

Some of the courses are Accounting, Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Estate Management, Urban Management, Science Laboratory and Agricultural Management.

The council members are Dr Mutiu Arowosafe; Mrs Chinwe Chigibo; Abdulmuminu Hasan and Mrs Muslimat Salau.
