National Onion Producers

He urged the members of the National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria to work with NEPC to take the country to the right position in the onion export market.

According to him, onions produced in Nigeria are the best, advising the marketers to use a special package to identify their products easily in the global market.

Promoting Onion Export Cluster Development for Market Competitiveness

Sukaraiju-Yahaya further said that the NEPC had conducted a stakeholders’ sensitisation programme tagged: ” Promoting Onion Export Cluster Development for Market Competitiveness”.

He said that the effort was geared toward raising awareness on the importance of exports, standard ways of packaging and regulatory provisions to prepare the products into modern exports.

The trade adviser also said that the programme sensitised participants to know that non-oil exports had redoubled within the last six months and had contributed to the nation’s economy.

”The impressive non-oil export performance is attributed to NEPC’s new focus on strategic non-oil export programmes and initiatives such as grassroots export development.

”Various non-oil products that were exported have almost redoubled with an increase of about 64.23 per cent from 2020, 2021 and in 2022. It is encouraging,” he said.

Sukaraiju-Yahaya, however, urged that the non-oil export sector should play a vital role in the economic diversification of the country to reduce dependence on oil export.

He added, ”it is the reason behind the council’s efforts on export awareness campaigns to prioritise non-oil export promotion process.
