Scotland Midfielder Scores Two Goals in Win Over Spain

Manchester United fans are suggesting that midfielder Scott McTominay should play as a striker after his impressive performance for Scotland in their Euro 2024 qualifying match against Spain. McTominay scored two goals to help Scotland secure a 2-0 victory and take control of Group A.

The midfielder has now scored four goals in two matches, following his brace against Cyprus earlier in the international break. Some Manchester United fans are surprised by McTominay’s goalscoring form, as he has only scored 18 goals in his 202 appearances for the club.

Fans Call for McTominay to Play as Striker

With loanee forward Wout Weghorst struggling to score since joining from Burnley, some Manchester United supporters are calling for McTominay to play further forward for the team. Fans have taken to social media to express their opinions, with one tweeting “Scott McTominay should start as the striker over Wout Weghorst” and another commenting “Scott McTominay is a better No. 9 than Wout Weghorst.”

McTominay’s Background as a Forward

McTominay has played as a centre forward for Manchester United’s youth teams before being converted to a defensive midfielder by Jose Mourinho. In an interview, McTominay stated that he likes to both defend and attack and that he believes he can add more goals and assists to his game.

While it remains to be seen whether Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will take the fans’ advice and try McTominay as a striker, the midfielder’s goalscoring ability certainly makes him a player to watch in future matches.
