Coronavirus – South Africa: Health on border post COVID-19 vaccination sites

Vaccination sites at border posts will allow people to be vaccinated comfortably while waiting in line to cross the border.

PRETORIA, South Africa, January 10, 2022 / APO Group / –

The Presidency and the Departments of Health and Transportation, together with clinical operator Vikelizizwe, have been working together to bring vaccination services through pop-up vaccination sites to people during the holiday season, targeting people who travel to the along the main routes and cross the border.

These emerging vaccination sites are part of the department’s broader outreach strategy to bring health services closer to people to reduce transportation costs and time by increasing access to the COVID-19 vaccine.

This campaign began on December 23, 2021 and these designated vaccination sites will continue to provide vaccination service until January 15, 2022 at two of our main border posts, namely; Lebombo Border (Mpumalanga / Mozambique) and Ficksburg Border (Free State / Lesotho).

Vaccination sites located at border posts will allow people to conveniently get vaccinated while waiting in line to cross the border.

It is not necessary to register in advance and anyone who lives in the area where these border posts are located will be able to receive vaccination services, including booster vaccines, as long as they present some type of verifiable identity document, passport or birth certificate, especially children. between 12 and 17 years old.

Vaccines remain the most effective weapon against serious illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19 infection.

However, it is also important to continue to practice non-pharmaceutical interventions at all times, such as wearing a mask, washing / sanitizing hands regularly, maintaining social distancing, and avoiding crowded places without sufficient ventilation.
