The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) says Federal Government institutions that improve their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) will get adequate funds to execute their capital projects.
Alhaji Moshood Ola-Tijani, Director, Monitoring and Evaluation in FRC, made this known on Tuesday during an oversight visit to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
Ola-Tijani, who briefed the Chief Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the Hospital, Prof. Ogbu Ngim, on the mandate of FRC, said the commission promotes prudent and transparent fiscal management in Nigeria.
The director explained that if government agencies improved on their IGR, the Federal Government would be encouraged to release adequate funds for their capital projects.
According to him, FRC was concerned about the actual implementation of projects and revenue expenditures by government institutions.
He said that FRC also monitors budgetary provision to institutions by making sure that money released for capital projects are used judiciously.
While inspecting the Female Ward of the hospital, the House Officer Quarters and Car Park, he commended the level of work done.
I must commend the hospital management for putting the female ward into use. This project delivers direct benefit to the people of this area.
For the House Officers Quarters still under construction, I want the hospital management to take note and always execute project they can complete within the available resources.
We will make a case to the Federal Government and see what can be done to complete the project.
I have told the CMAC that revenue generation is now an integral part of the mandate of all government Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).
If you don’t generate money, you don’t get money; because if everybody contributes a little, it increases the money available for capital projects.
Earlier, Ngim said the visit by FRC was of immense benefit to the hospital, adding that it would help to appraise the level of work done and the need for timely release of funds.
Ngim urged the commission to prevail on the Federal Government to release what has been budgeted for the hospital for capital projects.
