Colorado offers Deion Sanders more than $5 million annually while coach assesses landing site

Jackson State
Jackson State coach Deion Sanders is widely expected to announce his future plans on Saturday after the Tigers take on the University of the South in the 2022 SWAC Championship Game. Sanders has been linked to job offers in Colorado, Cincinnati and South Florida and Prime himself confirmed a job offer from the Buffaloes.

Now, we could know how much the offer is worth.

Colorado has offered Sanders more than $5 million annually, according to CBS News Colorado. The offer is said to include some incentives to increase salary and while no details are available, those incentives could reportedly increase his salary by approximately 40%.
ESPN reported Friday night that Sanders is already laying the groundwork for the staff members and players he will target on the transfer portal in Colorado. The transfer portal will officially open on Monday despite the fact that several players have already announced their intention to change programs.
Jackson State
An offer makes sense considering Sanders has had both success and visibility at Jackson State. He is 26-5 in three seasons with the Tigers and is 11-0 this season. Sanders has also recruited some of the best talent in the country, including Travis Hunter, the number one recruit in the Class of 2022.
It seems Colorado is hoping Sanders can do the same for a program that won a national title in 1990.
Karl Dorrell
Colorado fired coach Karl Dorrell in October after an 0-5 start to the season. Dorrell took over the program during the COVID-shortened season after Mel Tucker left unexpectedly to take the job at Michigan State. Things started out pretty well, with the Buffaloes going 4-2 in an abbreviated 2020 season, but losing 13 of their next 17 games. The 2020 season is one of only two seasons in the last 15 in which the Buffaloes reached a bowl game.
