We’re closing all IDP camps in Maiduguri December – Zulum

Governor Babgana Zulum of Borno State revealed that all internally displaced persons camps, internally displaced persons and Maiduguri camps will be closed by December 31 to allow the displaced to return to the their ancestral homes.

Mr Zulum made the disclosure on Friday in an interview with State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, the decision follows the recent improvement in the security situation in the state.

He said: “I have come to brief the President on the efforts of the Borno State government to ensure the return of the displaced to their homes.

“So far everything is going well, the Borno State government has started well and arrangements have been made to ensure the closure of all camps for internally displaced persons within the metropolis of Maiduguri at the latest. December 31, 2021. “

The governor added that arrangements have also been made for the safe return of displaced persons, currently residing in the neighboring republics of Niger and Cameroon.

“In addition to this, the government of Borno State is also making efforts in collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to continue the repatriation of Nigerians living in Minawo camp in Cameroon.

“In addition, on November 27, the Borno State government will ensure the resettlement of internally displaced persons living in Diffa Province in Niger to Malumfatari, a local government area in Borno State, where now, we don’t have a human population, because of the insurgency, ”the governor explained.

Mr. Zulum noted with pleasure the overwhelming support that Borno State receives from the Nigerian military.

“To this end, the Nigerian military is providing all necessary support to the government of Borno State. I am happy to also inform you that the Chief of the Naval Staff ensured the return of the naval base to Baga last month, ”he said.
