An Ilorin based cleric , Imam Muhammad Jamiu, has admominished Muslims to be wary of fetish priests who use un-Islamic methods to solve spiritual problems.

Jamiu gave the warning in a lecture delivered on Thursday in Ilorin on “Hikmatul-al-yaum” (Today’s Wisdom).

He warned against proliferation of modern young clerics who employ use of fetish means to gain patronage from adherents.

He said that some clerics are “herbalists” in the guise of religious leaders.

According to him, some engage in practice of idolatory that has no semblance to Islamic teachings such as placing offerings in three footpaths roads.

“There are some clerics who will require clothing or shoes of a particular individual to perform divination. This has no correlation with Islamic injunctions,” he said.

Jamiu observed that some clerics are derailing from the Islamic path for worldly gains and to acquire power to perform miracles to solve people’s problems.

He reminded the faithful that Allah warned against ascribing partners with him, and that those involve in the occult and fetish things have derailed from the path of Islam.

“By strong conviction and belief in Allah, he is enough to solve all your spiritual problems, you don’t have to derail and follow the path of the Shaitan.

“The youths and older generation should engage themselves in strict worship and adherence to the the laws of Allah to receive His blessings,” he advised.
