Cleric tasks religious leaders on establishing youth skills centres

Pastor Godwin Olaoluwa of Glory of Christ Church, Ilorin, Kwara, has urged  religious leaders to support the youth by establishing skills centres.

Olaoluwa, who made the call in Ilorin on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria , said skills centres would help reduce unemployment in the country.

He said it was not enough to preach salvation and gospel to the congregation everyday, rather they should support and rescue members from poverty.

“Establish very decent skills centres for the youth to learn and become self dependent. Create jobs for them and stop waiting for government to do everything.

“It is time to give back to the society. Hire a team of professionals to train interested members for a better future.

“Train members on fashion designing, photography, baking, hair dressing/barbing, graphic designing, web designing and driving.

“We have a lot of skills that can generate income for them.

“Churches must do something to save the youth from wandering on the streets.

“It is not all about setting up Universities. Build well equipped skill centres and support the youth,” he said.

He also advised graduates to stop searching for white-collar jobs and embrace any opportunity that came their way.

“Stop being too selective on choice of job. You need to start somewhere to avoid  idleness,” he said.( NAN)
